Married off to Mr. Ali at a young age, Shaira found herself in a cleft-stick where her husband struggled to sustain the family with small-scale business ventures. The lack of sufficient capital often led to high-interest loans from local moneylenders, further exacerbating their financial woes. However, Shaira’s life took a positive turn when she learned about the concept of community-based organizations in her village. These groups offered low-interest loans and financial assistance to members, enabling them to start or expand their businesses. Inspired by this opportunity, Shaira decided to join one of these organizations and take control of her financial future.
With the support of fellow women in the community, Shaira accessed a loan from the organization and invested it in her husband’s business. As their business flourished, they began to see improvements in their financial situation. With stability gradually returning to their household, Shaira recognized the need for better living conditions, including the construction of a proper toilets.
The absence of toilets posed significant health and safety risks, especially for women and children who had to defecate in open areas near the river.
During her regular group meeting she had come to know about sanitation loan. Determined to address this issue, Shaira mobilized her community to take sanitation loan from Cashpor Micro credit pvt ltd. to build toilets in their homes.
The construction of toilets not only improved hygiene and sanitation but also enhanced the overall well-being of the community. Women and children no longer faced the dangers of open defecation, and the risk of waterborne diseases decreased significantly.
Shaira’s leadership and initiative earned her respect and recognition within her community. She became an advocate for sanitation and hygiene, encouraging other women to join community organizations and invest in similar projects.
