Shahnaj Begum from Agra, Uttar Pradesh is a 33 year old housewife who had no access to sustainable sanitation, including a toilet in her house.

As a practise in the village, her family used to relieve themselves in the open which was a concern not just for her but the entire family. Although she had some idea of toilets but building one for the family remains a big hurdle for lack of money. She approached local financiers but her inability to provide collateral security and higher interest rates always created the blockade.

Luckily for her she was approached by a Muthoot Microfin RO and was so impressed by the hassle free loan procedures of the organisation and joined a JLG immediately. Shahnaj availed the sanitation loan and constructed a new toilet with running water facility adjacent to her house. Now everyone in her family could go to the toilet whenever they needed.

Shahnaj says “Thanks to the easy and effective Muthoot Microfin loans I now have a new toilet that made such a difference to my life. I had never in my whole life had access to a toilet and always had to rely on going outside to relieve myself. It’s really made a change to our lives as we also feel safer as we don’t have to travel distances in the dark to relieve ourselves”.
